7 Activities to Try with Your Young Kids

Let’s face it, staying in is definitely the new going out. Lockdown has made us accustomed to finding solace and keeping ourselves entertained indoors. We’ve learned to appreciate each other’s, as well as our own company, and found ways to pass the time without having to travel endless hours or spend a whole load of money in the usual outdoor activities.

If you’re still scratching your head on what fun activities you can do as a family, especially with young kids, then check out these super cool activities you can do from the comfort of your own living room.

Bake and Decorate

Take the little ones into the kitchen and complete an online cake baking class together. Release their inner Mary Berry by putting whisk to the bowl and creating some delectable fresh baked goods. From homemade loaves of bread to gooey brownies and the perfect Victoria sponge, this is definitely an activity the whole family can enjoy whilst reap the delicious awards too! You can even take it a step further by learning skills such as piping and frosting to beautifully decorate your end products and really release your kids’ creativity.

Break out the Board Games

This is a classic which has served many family game nights over the years. There is no better way to create some competitive energy in your house and get some screen-free bonding time than with a good old-fashioned board game. Everyone can get involved and feel the excitement of trying to win against other family members. A definite firm family favourite.

Do some Creative DIY

This is a great activity that only requires bits and pieces you already have around your home. Grab all your spare pens, paper, glue sticks, paints, and any other loose ends you have laying around the house and get making! This is a super easy activity to put together for the little ones to enjoy and explore their creative nature, whilst giving you a chance to make something with them too.

Bring the Outdoors In

There’s nothing better than having a great camping experience minus all the dirt and annoying outdoor insects. Use all your pillows and blankets to make an awesome indoor fort and pop-up tents for the whole family to feel like their on an adventure. You can even make the classic camping snacks like roasted hotdogs and s’ mores for the full experience.

Go on a Hunt

You can create an indoor scavenger hunt for the whole family to enjoy by creating clue cards and placing them in each room of the house to then reach the next clue or card. Build up their excitement by leaving little treats along the way to then lead to an ultimate prize for the winner. This is a great way to get the kids moving about and get their competitive juices flowing again.

Have a Dance Party

If you’re tired of sitting down all the time then whip on some upbeat, funky music and get the family on their feet with some great dance tunes. This is a great way to get younger kids moving and shaking whilst enjoying themselves with some fun sounding music. Parents can easily get involved too and let loose a little without worrying about looking too silly. Who said you need to go out to have a good old boogie?

Do a Science Experiment

This is a great activity to do if your kids are the curious and fascinated type. There are a ton of at-home science experiments you can do that require very minimal preparation and set-up. You can very often just used items already in your home and get experimenting with whatever you like. For example, a simple experiment could involve some shaving cream, water, and drop of food colouring – then see what happens next!
